WHY STUDY IN SPAIN?

Spain is internationally recognised for its education, with its educational institutions ranking highly in the world rankings of European universities. Its privileged position in the area of education has allowed Spain to be ranked as the first country sending and receiving students for the Erasmus scholarships, which, with more than 25 years of operation, constitute the most popular student exchange programme in Europe (Spain receives 30,000 students each year from Erasmus programmes alone).

In terms of the foreign population, it is estimated that Spain has become the third European country of destination for international university students, after England and Ireland. It is estimated that around 36% of foreign students come from the American continent and, within this group, more than 40% are from Latin America.

Studying abroad is a unique experience in every aspect. Studying in Spain is not only a way of enriching the curriculum, but also a key factor in favouring the employability of international students.

Spain is one of the international powers in terms of attracting global talent, with Madrid and Barcelona ranked in the top 10 in Europe for setting up start-ups and Valencia as a favourite destination for digital nomads. It is one of the preferred options for international employees when thinking about a destination to live within the countries with the highest quality of life and competitiveness in the market. The National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (promoted by the government) aims to consolidate the country as a leading international location for attracting AI expert talent.

But there are also other reasons that make Spain a perfect place to undertake international studies:

WEATHER

Spain is known worldwide for its long hours of sunshine and mild temperatures compared to other European countries. If you are looking to escape from cold cities with grey skies, this is the ideal destination.

LANGUAGE

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, behind only English, Mandarin Chinese and Hindi. Learning to speak it fluently is an asset at a professional level if it is not your mother tongue.

QUALITY EDUCATION SYSTEM

LThe range of training available in Spain is wide and of a high level, whether official or in-house degrees. Specifically, ESIC has been training globally recognised professionals in the disciplines of Marketing, Business and Technology for more than 59 years.

A SAFE COUNTRY

In any Spanish city you can enjoy a quiet life, because it is one of the safest countries in the world. Enjoying life in the streets is a mark of the Mediterranean lifestyle, with hardly any worries. The coexistence is peaceful and the people are very friendly.

CULTURE

Great exponents of world culture have emerged from within these borders, enriching this territory with their creations and inspiring the world; Picasso, Dalí, Goya, Lorca, Cervantes... are just some of the examples of universal artists who can be traced during a stay in Spain.

HISTORY

World-famous monuments, cities steeped in history and the mark of multiple cultures over the centuries make up a country of exceptional cultural richness and diversity.

TRADITION AND FESTIVITIES

There are many traditional and sporting festivities to enjoy in a safe and positive environment, from the Fallas to the Sanfermines, Semana Santa and la Feria de Abril, as well as the big matches of top teams in football, basketball and other sports.

DIVERSE ENVIRONMENT

A country that combines sea and mountains. You can enjoy an intense and multicultural life, especially in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, but also the tranquility and authenticity of the countryside. Nature is surprisingly diverse, with authentic orchards, mountainous areas, secluded beaches and dream islands to be discovered.

TRAVEL TO VERY ATTRACTIVE DESTINATIONS

Located in a privileged geographical enclave, being based in Spain allows for affordable trips to North Africa and European countries such as France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Portugal.

GASTRONOMY

Although the Mediterranean diet is the basis of Spanish cuisine, traditional gastronomy is very rich and unique, depending on the area. Quality products, tradition and also the avant-garde come together to offer a unique gastronomic experience.

THE PEOPLE

Spaniards are characterized by their warmth and friendliness. Used to multicultural environments, they quickly make you feel like one of them. In addition, ESIC offers you a welcome service so that your arrival and adaptation are easy, and you can make the most of your ESIC experience.

REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY IN SPAIN AS A FOREIGN STUDENT

Studying abroad is a unique journey full of beneficial opportunities, such as learning about another culture, gaining new perspectives and a quality education in an international environment. But it's also an experience that involves personal changes, family challenges, requirements and paperwork that you need to be aware of before embarking on this adventure.

Studying abroad has some challenges, but the rewards are great. Once you have decided on the country and the studies you want to undertake, you will have to set in motion other fundamental aspects to make your arrival at your new destination more pleasant; procedures at origin, finding accommodation, formalities at destination, etc.

These challenges are normal and can make you feel a little dizzy at the beginning of the experience. It is therefore essential to have as much information as possible.

Our aim is to facilitate this whole process and make sure that both families and future students can, with the support of ESIC, be as well informed and accompanied as possible.

WAYS OF ACCESSING UNIVERSITY

  1. Access for candidates from the Spanish education system.

If you have studied in Spain, or in a Spanish school outside Spain, you must present the ‘Evaluación de Acceso a la Universidad’ (EvAU) card with a grade of ‘Apta’.

  2. Access for candidates from European education systems, Switzerland, International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate, China and other countries with bilateral agreements with Spain.

If you have studied in one of these educational systems you only have to present the credential granted by the UNED (‘Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia’) which certifies that you meet the university entrance requirements. The UNED is responsible for converting the qualification obtained in an education system to the Spanish scale of 1 to 10.

  3. Access for candidates from other education systems.

ESIC's International Department also helps you to manage the homologation process. Homologation is a process by which the Spanish Ministry of Education recognises that your secondary school studies give you access to the Spanish University, on the same terms as if you had studied in Spain.

At the end of the process the Spanish Ministry of Education grants you the Credencial de Homologación. The Credencial de Homologación is the equivalent of having the Spanish Bachillerato degree, which gives you access to a Spanish university.

HOW IS LIFE IN SPAIN?

There is no obligation to tip in restaurants and cafés, but it is common to tip if the service has been satisfactory.

Carry some change in your pockets to pay for your bus fare. Be careful with your personal belongings in crowded places.

Generally speaking, Spaniards are straightforward, but welcoming and approachable.

Spain follows a Mediterranean diet. Breakfast and dinner are light and lunch is the most important meal of the day. Going out for a coffee at around 11am is almost part of your job duties, and enjoying a drink with a colleague after work is almost a must!

Be patient, Spaniards tend to have a relaxed pace in their day-to-day lives.

The family is possibly the most important social unit in Spain. We encourage you to spend some time getting to know Spanish families, you will learn a lot from them and you will have some memorable moments.

Much of social life takes place outdoors, especially in spring and summer. All over Spain you will find a wide variety of plans and activities, capable of satisfying even the most demanding visitors.
