Madrid is the capital of Spain and is located right at the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. Over three million people live in the city, although if the greater metropolitan area is included the number reaches six million.
The official currency is the euro (€) and the official language is Spanish.
You can get to and around the city in various ways.
Madrid has a Mediterranean climate, greatly influenced by urban factors.
The winters are cold, with temperatures descending to 4-5°C, frequent frosts and occasional snowfalls. The summers, in contrast, are hot, with average temperatures of 24°C in July and August and maximum temperatures often exceeding 35°C.
Annual rainfall is over 400mm, with summers especially being very dry.
Depending on the course, accommodation may be included or students may need to arrange their own accommodation, choosing from the following options:
STUDENT RESIDENCES: Madrid offers a large number of these, where students can share their experiences with their fellows.
ROOMS FOR RENT: Students will easily be able to find rented rooms and apartment shares, as there are plenty available due to the high demand from young people.
In general, finding accommodation usually takes a few days, so we recommend booking a room for your first few nights in one of the many hostels or hotels available in the city.
